DEEP RIVER — A Festival of Christmas Music will be held Sunday, Dec. 20, at the 10 a.m. service at Deep River Congregational Church. The Senior Choir and Chancel Bell Choir will present a Service of Music for Christmas. The church will be decorated with poinsettias and a special coffee hour will be held after worship.
At the 8:30 a.m. service, Rev. Timothy Haut will give a sermon for the 4th Sunday in Advent.
The annual Christmas Pageant, “Thy Light Is Come” (presented by the youth and children of the church), will take place on Christmas Eve at 5:30 p.m. at the church. For over 50 years, young people from the Church have performed the nativity pageant, “Thy Light Is Come.” Costumed shepherds, angels, and wise men have sung carols and told the Christmas story as envisioned by the late Rev. Walter Euston, former minister of the church.
The Candlelight Communion Service begins at 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve at Deep River Congregational Church. During the service, Communion is shared in the front of the church. This year the United Church of Chester will join the Deep River Church and Rev. Lee Ireland and members of their choir will participate in the service. The celebration closes as individual candles are lit and “Silent Night” is sung together.
On Sunday, Dec. 27, there will be only one worship service, at 10 a.m. It will be a family service, featuring carols, the annual Good King Wenceslas Pageant, and a Christmas story by Rev. Haut instead of a sermon. After the service all are invited to join in the spectacle of the “Twelve Days of Christmas,” … aerobic style! Come and enjoy this wonderful tradition.
